What to Expect From Infusion Therapy
A Comprehensive Guide to Infusion Therapy: Benefits and Process
Infusion therapy, a method of delivering medications intravenously, offers a distinct alternative to traditional oral medications. With its diverse advantages, this treatment is becoming a preferred choice for individuals dealing with a range of medical conditions.
The process of infusion therapy involves the gradual administration of medication through a catheter inserted into a vein in the arm. As the medication drips into the bloodstream, it can take some time to complete the treatment.
We ask that you anticipate an extended stay during your visit to our treatment center. Your doctor will provide an estimate of the duration before your treatment begins. To make the most of your time, consider bringing along a book or a music player with headphones to keep yourself entertained.
Throughout the treatment, you will have the support of our dedicated nurses and physicians. They will be by your side, ensuring your comfort and well-being. Continuous monitoring and check-ins are part of the process, assuring a safe and effective experience.
Infusion Therapy FAQs
It is crucial to communicate any insurance changes to the infusion center prior to your scheduled appointment. Neglecting to do so could potentially lead to treatment delays.
Kindly inform the infusion center about any changes in your health, which may encompass symptoms such as fever, infection, or potential exposure to COVID-19. Your timely communication is essential for maintaining a safe treatment environment.
In order to safeguard the privacy of all patients and provide ample room for our dedicated staff and nurses to carry out their duties effectively, we kindly request that parents, friends, companions, or guardians wait in the designated waiting room. For the initial IV start, a single individual is permitted to accompany the patient into the infusion room. Once the IV is successfully in place, we kindly ask the accompanying person to return to the waiting room for the duration of the infusion process.
- Prior to the start of your infusion, we will record your height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, and pulse. Our nurses will inquire about your present health status and any discomfort or symptoms you may be experiencing. It is of utmost importance that you provide accurate information, as our nurses share this data with your physician for comprehensive care.
- We will initiate your IV, conduct labs if necessary, and administer prescribed pre-medications via IV, oral methods, or both.
- The infusion duration varies based on the medication you are receiving.
- After every infusion, a saline flush lasting 10-15 minutes will be administered. This step allows our nurses to carefully monitor and ensure complete infusion of all medication from the IV tubing.
- During your infusion, we will monitor your blood pressure and pulse every 30 minutes.
- Once your infusion finishes, we will assess your blood pressure, pulse, and temperature before removing the IV.
- Kindly inform us if you require a work or school excuse before you leave.
- Should you have any concerns following your infusion, please contact your prescribing physician.
